Using “Would rather” 
Structure
Subject + would rather + base verb + than + base verb 
Note:
  • Prefer > to like one thing more than another.
  • Would rather > to choose one thing instead of another in a specific situation.
Formality
  • Prefer is a little more formal and often used in writing.
  • Would rather is more informal and common in speaking.
Examples:
  1. I would rather stay home than go out.
  2. He’d rather eat pizza than cook food.
  3. We would rather walk than take a taxi.
  4. She’d rather read a book than watch TV.
  5. They would rather study than play games.
  6. I’d rather sleep early than stay up late.
  7. He would rather listen than speak in meetings.
  8. We’d rather travel by train than fly.
  9. She would rather write than type.
  10. They’d rather play outside than stay indoors.
  11. I would rather drink water than soda.
