The Last Sunset of the Century
It was the evening of 31st December 1999. The air was cool, and the streets were full of excitement. People all over the world were waiting to welcome the new century. In a small Indian town, children played outside while elders prepared for the celebrations. Shops were decorated with lights, and music played from every corner.
Ravi, a young boy of fifteen, stood near the old clock tower. He looked at the sky, painted in shades of orange and pink. His grandmother told him, “Ravi, this is the last sunset of the 20th century. Remember it well.” Her voice was soft but full of meaning.
The clock struck six, and temple bells rang in the distance. Families gathered in the town square, talking about how life had changed in the last hundred years. Some spoke about the arrival of electricity, others about the first trains that connected their village to the city. Ravi listened with curiosity, imagining those early days.
As night fell, fireworks began to light up the sky. The year 2000 was only hours away. Ravi thought about the future—computers, faster travel, and new inventions. His grandmother smiled, saying, “Every century brings new challenges, but also new hope.”
When the clock struck midnight, the town cheered together. It was the end of one century and the birth of another. Ravi felt proud to witness this moment, knowing it was a part of history he would tell his children one day.
