📘 What is Sentence Stress?

Sentence stress means stressing (saying more strongly) important words (like nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) in a sentence, while saying the function words (like is, the, of, in, and) more softly.

How to Pronounce with Sentence Stress:
  • Say content words clearly and louder.
  • Say function words softly and quickly.

  1. I LIKE apples. → stress on like, apples
  2. She WORKS hard. → stress on works, hard
  3. They PLAY football.
  4. We LIVE in Rajkot.
  5. The DOG is BARKing.
  6. It’s a BEAUtiful DAY.
  7. He READS every NIGHT.
  8. I EAT lunch at ONE.

  10. He DRIVES very FAST.
